California Institute of the Arts (이하 칼아츠)에 재학 중인 한인 유학생
아티스트들의 각기 다른 예술적 특성을 지닌 작품들을 보다 널리 알리고자 기획되었습니다.

<Kaleidoscope;파편>은 조각조각 흩어진 다양한 한인 유학생 아티스트들이 이 전시를 통해 한데 모여, 마치 만화경처럼 다채롭고 아름다운 예술적
풍경을 함께 만들어 나간다는 의미를 담고 있습니다.

The 2025 Exhibition by CalArts UKAL, , will be held from 04.18 to 04.20. This exhibition was organized to showcase the works of Korean international student artists studying at CalArts, each with their unique artistic characteristics.

Symbolizes how diverse Korean international student artists, each like scattered fragments, come together through this exhibition to create a vibrant and beautiful artistic landscape—just like a kaleidoscope.

Orchid

Since I was a kid, my father has nurtured orchids. Perhaps it’s because my Korean name, Dahye, means “orchid.” With a father who raised orchids and a mother who enjoyed flower arranging, my house was always filled with flowers. I still remember the soft touch of petals against my nose and the gentle scent that comforted me.

This work is a self-portrait that holds fragments of my inner world—parts of myself that are difficult to fully express in words. Through ceramics, thread, and photographs, I expressed my emotions that are soft like flowers, yet sometimes fragile enough to break.

제 아버지는 제가 어렷을 적부터 난초를 키우셨습니다. 저의 한국이름 ‘다혜’가 난초를 뜻해서일까요? 난초를 키우시는 아버지, 꽃꽂이를 즐기시는 어머니 — 저희 집엔 늘 꽃이 있었습니다. 꽃에 코를 맞대고 향기를 맡을때에 코 끝에 느껴지는 부드러운 꽃잎의 촉감, 그리고 좋은 향기는 늘 저의 마음을 평온하게 해주었습니다.

이 작품은 말이나 글로 온전히 설명하기 힘든, 저의 깊은 내면의 단편들을 담아낸 자화상입니다. 꽃처럼 부드럽고, 때로는 부서지기 쉬운 감정들을 도자기와 실, 그리고 저의 사진들을 통해 표현하였습니다.
