아티스트들의 각기 다른 예술적 특성을 지닌 작품들을 보다 널리 알리고자 기획되었습니다.

<Kaleidoscope;파편>은 조각조각 흩어진 다양한 한인 유학생 아티스트들이 이 전시를 통해 한데 모여, 마치 만화경처럼 다채롭고 아름다운 예술적
풍경을 함께 만들어 나간다는 의미를 담고 있습니다.

The 2025 Exhibition by CalArts UKAL, , will be held from 04.18 to 04.20. This exhibition was organized to showcase the works of Korean international student artists studying at CalArts, each with their unique artistic characteristics.

Symbolizes how diverse Korean international student artists, each like scattered fragments, come together through this exhibition to create a vibrant and beautiful artistic landscape—just like a kaleidoscope.

In the early 2020s, many artists began to reinterpret familiar visual elements by engaging with mass-distributed imagery circulating in digital spaces. Within this context, the artist continues a personal exploration of style through vivid floral images inspired by the profile pictures often chosen by middle-aged women on messaging apps. This ongoing interest in what the artist refers to as "ajumma aesthetics" has served as a practical and conceptual motif from the outset.

By focusing on visual tastes frequently dismissed as kitsch or outdated, the artist carries out an aesthetic and critical investigation into popular sensibilities. Through continued experimentation with color and form, the artist presents a flower that, while immediately recognizable, departs from conventional floral imagery to evoke a new sensorial experience.

The work is not concerned with the flower as a subject per se, but rather with how collective and personal associations with such imagery coexist. This piece forms part of the artist’s broader visual exploration while also questioning the hierarchies that shape how images are consumed, valued, and understood within visual culture.

2020년대 초반, 디지털 공간에서 유통되는 대중적 이미지에 관심을 두고 익숙한 시각 요소를 재해석하는 작가들이 등장했다. 이러한 흐름 속에서 작가 또한 아줌마들의 카톡 프로필에서 영감을 얻은 화려한 꽃 이미지를 통해 작가는 개인적인 스타일 실험을 지속한다. 작가가 지속적으로 관심을 가져온 "아줌마 미학"은 초기부터 실천적 모티프로 활용되었다. 작가는 흔히 촌스럽다고 여겨지는 대중적 취향에 대한 지적, 미학적 탐구를 진행하였으며, 다양한 방식으로 색채와 형태에 관한 실험을 지속한다.

이는 누구나 알아보는 꽃의 형태와 작가 특유의 색채 실험이 만나 '꽃'이라 불리지만, 기존의 꽃 이미지와는 다른 감각을 펼쳐낸다. 작가에게 중요한 것은 꽃이라는 대상 자체가 아니라, '꽃'에 대한 대중적 인식과 개인적 해석을 병치함으로써 일상적 이미지가 각자의 경험 속에서 다르게 존재한다는 것을 환기시키는 것이었다. 이는 개인적인 조형 실험의 연장선에 있으며, 동시에 이미지 소비와 취향, 감각의 위계에 대한 작가적 질문을 담고 있다.
